New Russian education and science minister calls her main priority upbringing of a moral personality
Moscow, August 30, Interfax - Education Minister Olga Vasilyeva believes her main task at the new post is to help forming moral personalities and open teachers possibility for creative work.
"Education is learning and upbringing and school has always, during the entire human history, formed a person, not a profile specialist as it was possible several dozens years ago," the minister said at her meeting with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in Moscow.
She reminded Albert Einstein's words that school forms a person, not a narrow specialist.
"The main priority for me is upbringing of a person, first a small one, then a grown-up, who has moral kernel, who is not indifferent to such things as justice, kindness, love, respect to the old ones, care about elders. Such words as "mercy," "compassion," have unfortunately left our language," Vasilyeva said.
She noted that it was very important for her that thanks to a teacher, "first of all his or her moral deeds, ideals," pupils, after joining grown-up life, would worthily accept it, with all its hardships.
"We should take all the best and go further. The best we had, though several generation were deprived of it, is the fount of Russian literature. Nothing, but the Russian literature teaches a person morality," the minister said.
