24 November 2010Priest flies airchute in Leningrad Region

Moscow, November 24, Interfax - Father Pavel Radin, a clergyman in the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, which is under construction in the Yukki village of the Leningrad Region, is keen on hang-gliding.
He flies airchute. He got interested in this sport after visiting the Holy Land where he saw hang-gliders and paragliders flying over the Mount Tabor.
"I felt somewhat tired that day and thought it would be great to go down the mountain like they do, flying on the wings. I took a closer look at the chutes, and bought one when I came back to Russia. So, I keep flying from that time on," Father Pavel told Interfax-Religion on Wednesday.
Fr. Pavel is one of the best bell-ringers in the St. Petersburg Diocese. He takes classes at the bell-ringing school at the church, which accepts all interested students. He is also involved in the design and installation of bell towers. His recent projects include the belfry of St. Theodor Emperor's Catherdral, which is currently renovated in St. Petersburg, and the belfry of St. John the Baptist Church in Yukki.
Fr. Pavel gives concerts of church bell music both in St. Petersburg and abroad. He authors a guidebook on Orthodox service and bell-ringing canons.
