18 March 2011Russian Church stages performance with homeless as actors
Moscow, March 18, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church plans to organize a theatre performance where will be actors.
Such method of their rehabilitation was discussed at the meeting of the Department for Charities and Social Work officials with experts working with homeless people at Sts Martha and Mary Convent in Moscow.
Participants in the project hope that the test run will take place in summer 2011 and the first night will be given at the Christmas readings in January 2012, the Department website reported.
Six people who are taking rehabilitation course in the Marfino social adaptation center have already joined the company.
Work to be staged has not been specified yet. Authors of the idea wanted to stage The Lower Depth by Maxim Gorky, but then said that it was "too sad" and chose Chekhov. In his turn, Bishop Panteleimon of Orekhovo-Zuyevo suggested Shakespeare or Pushkin as options.
