24 January 2012Police in the Kaliningrad Region took participants in the race for gays and sectarians

Kaliningrad, January 24, Interfax - Police in Sovietsk, the Kaliningrad Region, detained participants in an athletic run as they took for gay pride parade.
The Sovietsk town website reports that at the recent week-end city youth took part in the athletic run For Healthy Lifestyle, there were junior schoolchildren, their parents who came to support their children.
Running by the post office, sportsmen heard automobile signals and when they turned back they saw not less than three police cars and an ambulance. It turned out that officers arrived to detain the runners.
Policemen offered the sportsmen to pass to the department of the interior saying that an anonymous citizen called the police. He told the policemen that an unsanctioned gay pride parade took place in the center of the city.
Another reason for detaining sportsmen was a flag the racers carried with them. The inscription Russians Chose Sport was made on the black-yellow-white flag of the Russian Empire. Policemen took the flag for a sectarian banner.
Organizers of the event had to write an explanatory note. Other participants also gave evidence. Then they were released.
