Court sets hearing on ruling Pussy Riot video as extremist for Nov 15

Moscow, November 9, Interfax - Moscow's Zamoskvoretsky Court has scheduled a hearing on a motion by prosecution authorities on qualifying a video of the Pussy Riot feminist punk band's performance at the Christ the Savior Cathedral as extremist for November 15.

Judge Marina Musimovich will hear the case, and the hearing will begin at 11:00 a.m., court press secretary Yevgenia Pazukhina said.

Media reported earlier that State Duma deputy Alexander Starovoitov had asked prosecutors to analyze the video and qualify it as extremist, arguing that the video "insults feelings of millions of believers and negatively affects public morals, and its viewing could have negative consequences."

Moscow's Kuntsevsky District Court on September 7 had declined a claim for compensation of moral damages in the amount of 30,000 rubles from Irina Ruzankina, a resident of Novosibirsk, against the sentenced Pussy Riot members. Ruzankina's claim said she had suffered "deep moral sufferings" after viewing a video of Pussy Riot's performance at the Christ the Savior Cathedral. Ruzankina's lawyer said that, "after watching the stunt on February 26, she developed a headache and high blood pressure."
