Tajikistan's Party of Islamic Revival backs Palestine, condemns Israel's actions
Dushanbe, November 21, Interfax - The Party of the Islamic Revival of Tajikistan on Wednesday adopted a statement condemning Israel's actions in Palestine, recognizing the actions taken by Palestine as legitimate.
"The Party of Islamic Revival of Tajikistan condemns air and sea attacks on the Palestinian territories by the Israeli military, in which hundreds of peaceful Palestinians, including many children, were killed," the Party of Islamic Revival of Tajikistan said in a statement.
"We express concern about the fact that the world community, especially the U.S. and some Western countries, have backed the war crimes committed by Israel, ignoring the lawful demands made by the people of Palestine, who have been under Israeli occupation for over sixty years," the document says.
"This political mistake and the one-sided position taken by the leading powers may divide the world into opposite camps, and it will not be easy to unite them again. The government of Tajikistan and the people of Tajikistan should not stay aside from this situation, which is a crisis for all Muslims, because we are all brothers and we have a duty to be together in the days of joy and sorry," the Party of Islamic Revival of Tajikistan said in its statement.
Official Dushanbe has not yet stated its position on the conflict.
The Party of Islamic Revival of Tajikistan is the only legal Islamic party in the former Soviet republics. It has over 40,000 members.
The party has two deputies in the lower house of the parliament, which has 63 members.
The Party of Islamic Revival of Tajikistan is the only opposition party represented in the parliament.
