22 October 2013, 12:38Russians transporting religious books in Arabic held in Kazakhstan
Astana, October 22, Interfax - Four Russian citizens were detained in Kazakhstan's northern Kostanay Region, located near the border with Russia, after a large number of religious books in Arabic were found in their car, the Kazakh National Security Committee's border guard service said in a press release.
The Russians, the oldest of whom is 43 years old and the youngest just 16, were detained at the Kairak Avto border crossing point, it said.
"They did not break any border crossing regulations, but religious literature in Arabic was found in their VAZ-21113 car. They attempted to smuggle more than 60 books from Kazakhstan into Russia," according to the press release.
An inquiry is underway. The books have been confiscated and will be examined by specialists.
