Moscow, July 15, Interfax - Protestant pastor Farshid Fathi, 36, will be released from jail two years earlier, in December 2015, the Communication Service of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations reports on Wednesday.
Fathi was arrested in December 2010. He was sentenced to seven years of jail for actions threatening Iran national security.
In April 2015, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia sent a letter to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani asking to forgive Fathi.
According to the report, the Moscow Patriarchate interacting with political and religious leaders, constantly raises the question of Christian prisoners in countries with Muslim majority of population.
"Christians of various confessions all around the world were inspired with numerous addresses of His Holiness the Patriarch to leaders of such countries as Sudan, Pakistan, Iran," the DECR reports. |
