07 April 2016, 12:07If Turkey wants to normalize relations with Egypt, it should stop backing Muslim Brotherhood - Russian diplomat
Moscow, April 7, Interfax - Ankara should stop supporting the Society of the Muslim Brothers (the Muslim Brotherhood), an organization banned in Egypt, if it wants to normalize its relations with this country, says Russian Ambassador to Egypt Sergey Kirpichenko.
"Naturally, if the Turks want to normalize their relations with Egypt, they should end this unrealistic line and reconsider their attitude toward the Society of the Muslim Brothers banned in Egypt," Kirpichenko said in an interview with Interfax.
"Egyptian-Turkish relations are going through a difficult moment because of Ankara's unconstructive position. It's hard to understand why Turkey has claimed the right not to recognize the incumbent Egyptian leadership's legitimacy," Kirpichenko said in commenting on reports that a so-called alternative Egyptian parliament had started working in Turkey in 2016.
Before holding its session in Turkey, the so-called Egyptian speaker in exile, Gamal Heshmat, said he did not recognize the parliament formed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, arguing that it "does not represent the Egyptian people."
