Moscow, December 14, Interfax – Russian MP, curator of the church building program in the capital Vladimir Resin told about unique character of the project.
"The program of building Orthodox churches is not someone's PR act, not someone's personal project. It is a unique, people's charitable project, which probably does not have any analogs in the world," Resin writes in his article published on Wednesday by the Izvestia daily.
He reported that for the time of implementing the program 51 churches were built, 44 are in the process of construction, over 140 parishes were set up.
The MP stressed that neither building companies nor donations of certain patrons could have spread the program, if there was not real desire of Muscovites, who contribute their work and money in the project.
"The bright example is the church on the Khodynskoye Pole erected for a year. No protests organized from outside managed to stop this wish of Muscovites. The parish together with its rector, guided by the wish of local residents to build a church to commemorate perished aviators, thanks to participation of people of various confessions Muslims, Jews, and even followers of Krishna - erected this church in record time.
According to the author, the basic aim of the project was to provide Muscovites with churches where they can get on foot, they constructed by themselves near their houses, to make "life of parishioners, residents of the district more comfortable, the territory around well-organized and green, to rejoice their souls."
