Putin's words about similarity of Communism, Christianity smooth things over Lenin Mausoleum - CPRF
Moscow, January 15, Interfax - The Russian Communist Party (CPRF) positively evaluates Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement that the Communist ideology is interrelated with the Christianity and believes that this irons things out around the Lenin Mausoleum's issue.
"I believe that these words of the president are smoothing things over the mausoleum's issue in a very useful and substantiated manner. In this respect, the evaluation of these theses can be only positive," CPRF Central Committee First Deputy Chairman and State Duma First Vice-Speaker Ivan Melnikov told reporters.
"CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov has also for a long time and fundamentally been speaking of a supposition of links between the values of Christianity and Communism," he said.
"Another issue is that for the Communists 'the moral code of the builder of Communism' cannot be 'a primitive excerpt from the Bible.' As this code, after all, is aimed at building a just society right here and right now," the CPRF Central Committee first deputy chairman said.
At the same time, "the Communists and all leftist patriotic forces understand that the Communism is as close to the Christianity as the type of Capitalism, which today exists in our country, our economy, is far from the Christianity," Melnikov added.
The Communists did not create their own ideology but only adapted Orthodox Christianity to their needs, Putin said earlier.
"Lenin ['s body] was placed inside the Mausoleum. How is that different from any relics of the saints for Orthodox Christians or Christians in general? I am told: 'No, there is no such tradition in the Christian world.' How come? What about Athos? Go there and see. There are relics of the saints there. And here, too, there are the holy relics of [Saint] Sergius and [Saint] Herman. In other words, the then authorities dreamed up nothing new. They just adapted what the mankind had invented a long time ago to their ideology," Putin said in the documentary film Valaam, from which excerpts were published on the Rossiya 1 (VGTRK) television channel's website.
The Communist ideology is akin to Christianity since the notions of liberty, fraternity, equality, and equity are rooted in the Holy Bible, he added.
"And what about the [Moral] Code of the Builders of Communism? It's sublimation, a primitive excerpt from the Bible. They didn't invent a thing," Putin said.
