First time in the new history six Jewish couples got married simultaneously
Moscow, May 4, Interfax - First time in the contemporary history of the Jewish community a ceremony of marriage was held for six young couples at a time.
"We are witnesses to the unique event. Probably, the only one in history of Jewish people. On the feast of Lag BaOmer six Jewish couple who came from Russia to Austria in frames of the Eurostars program set up families and held a chuppah - a wedding ceremony in compliance with traditions of the Jewish law," chief rabbi of Russia said at ceremony as cited by press service of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia.
The rabbi expressed hope that this example would give an impulse for whole Jewish youth and show that all necessary conditions for observing Jewish lifestyle were set up in Russia.
"It is unprecedented. Speed of the Jewish community developing in Russia exceeds the same indices in Europe and the USA," the Jewish leader said.
FJCR President Alexander Boroda also congratulated the newlyweds and noted that Jewish community of Russia supported and guided young people and held lectures on family relations.
"We spare no effort to oppose assimilation, which unfortunately is very often these days: young people mostly meet in the office, university, so we try to offer them interesting pastime - lessons, trips, outdoor seminars and many other activities, so that they spend their time with Jewish friends, meet each other in community," Boroda said.
The Eurostars program exists six years. Over 1,000 people from 45 cities of Russia and the CIS-countries participated in it in 2018. This year the group visited Switzerland, Austria and Poland. For the whole period of work over 4,000 people aged from 18 to 30 participated in the program, the students visited 25 countries and 70 cities.
The compulsory final part of the program is March of the Living in memorial complex Auschwitz-Birkenau.
