Rahmon calls on Tajik people to display political vigilance, have modest feasts on Eid al-Fitr
Dushanbe, June 14, Interfax - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has called on the country's citizens to help those in need and protect the independence of Tajikistan in his greetings in the run-up to the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
"Islam highly extols righteous donations and likens them to service of God since generosity and virtue are like adornments that true believers deserve to have," the head of state said in his message.
"While celebrating the [Eid] al-Fitr holiday, true believes should aim to have modest feasts, inspiring it by their good morals, and always observe the culture of distributing their savings," Rahmon said.
"The main goal of the country's leadership and government is to raise the living standards of the people, ensure the state's sustainable development, develop a civilized nation, ensure the wellbeing of each family in the Republic of Tajikistan, and bolster the authority and image of our state in the international arena," the president said.
"The right attitude to moral and spiritual values with due account of nationwide interests is a crucial condition of strengthening national unity, stability and order in society," he said.
"In today's complex and strained conditions of the vulnerable modern-day world, our people need more than ever before to cherish their invaluable possession - independence and its achievements - like the apple of their eye and safeguard it with the feeling of high patriotism and political vigilance," he said.
"We know from our bitter experience the price of security, order, civil accord, national unity, peace and stability," Rahmon said.
