03 October 2018, 10:22Patriarch Kirill calls for pan-Orthodox debate of "Ukrainian issue"
Moscow, October 3, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has written to the primates of all the local Orthodox Churches, offering to begin a pan-Orthodox discussion of the situation around the church life in Ukraine.
"This kind of letter has been sent to all leaders of local Orthodox Churches. In it, the patriarch informs about events in Ukraine, sets out the position of the Russian Orthodox Church, and notes that the Patriarchate of Constantinople's unilateral actions could lead to extremely serious consequences for the unit of the Orthodox world," Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, deputy head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations, told Interfax-Religion.
In the spirit of the Holy Synod's September 14 statement the patriarch suggests "doing everything possible to initiate a pan-Orthodox discussion of this issue," the priest said. |
