12 October 2018, 14:14"Kiev Patriarchate" initiating emergency unification assembly
Kiev, October 12, Interfax - The "Kiev Patriarchate" has called on supporters of autocephaly to begin working on an emergency unification assembly to make decisions on church unity and the creation of a local church.
The decisions made by the Constantinople Synod "open up the door to the convocation of an emergency unification assembly of the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church composed of the entire Ukrainian episcopate, which asked Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to grant a tomos on autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in April 2018," the patriarchate's press center said on Friday.
"The isolation of the Kiev Patriarchate from Church, prayer, and eucharistic communion with the fullness of the Orthodox faith, which was artificially created by the Russian Orthodox Church, is no more," the statement said.
The "Kiev Patriarchate" calls on "the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the hierarchs of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine involved in the unification process to begin preparations for the emergency unification assembly," it said.
"The function of this assembly is to make a decision on church unity and elect the chairman of the unified local autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox church, who will receive on its behalf the patriarch's and synodal tomos on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox church," the statement said.
The "Kiev Patriarchate" also calls on the "bishops, clergy, and flock of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church to support the process of unification of the Ukrainian Orthodox church."
