23 May 2006, 10:24Lajolo condemns Da Vinci Code
Baku, May 23, Interfax - Secretary for the Holy See's Relations with States Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo has condemned the movie Da Vinci Code.
The movie is a lie. It insults the beliefs of religious people, mock their feelings, Lajolo told journalists on Monday in Baku where he is on an official visit.
Freedom of the media does not give the right to trample on others' rights and freedoms, to insult the beliefs of religious people, he said.
Moreover, Lajolo mentioned that when the scandal around the Prophet Mohammed cartoons erupted, the Vatican condemned the journalists and publishers. We stated then that the media must be free: however, this does not give them the right to violate the freedoms of others, the archbishop said, adding that the same evaluation applies to the movie Da Vinci Code. |
