Moscow, January 28, Interfax - A monument to the heroes of the resistance in concentration camps and ghettoes during World War II will be unveiled in Moscow as soon as this May, said Viktor Vekselberg, the chairman of the board of trustees of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center.
"Over 100 creators participated in the competition. The winner has already been determined: architect Oleg Fandeyev. We really hope that we will be able to invite you to the opening ceremony of this memorial as early as this May," Vekselberg said at the annual candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the victims of the Holocaust at the Jewish Museum in Moscow on Monday.
The ceremony, which takes place on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, was held with support from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FJC). Russia's Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, FJC President Alexander Boroda, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, and the ambassadors of the United States, Latvia, and Poland lighted six black candles. Anyone who wants to can light a memorial candle at the museum. |
