Shoigu: 33 mln photos of war veterans to decorate road to church in Patriot Park
Moscow, February 11, Interfax - Some 33 million photos of veterans of the Great Patriotic War will be placed in the museum Road of Memory, which will be included in the church complex of the Russian Armed Forces now being built in the Moscow region in honor of the victory over fascism, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said.
A church will be opened in Patriot Park in the Moscow Region next year before the 75th anniversary of the victory is celebrated, Shoigu said.
"We are creating a Road of Memory there, where we would like to, and we will definitely do so, put photos of all the people who fought in the Great Patriotic War in the big country we had then, in the Soviet Union," the minister said during a meeting with Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan in Moscow.
There will be "a road that will be the same number of meters long as the number of days in the Great Patriotic War, and some 33 million photos will be placed there," he said.
Shoigu also said there are plans to include photos of foreign veterans, such as the French Normandy Neman Regiment.
"As to our allies, brothers-in-arms, we have a big favor to ask: to speed up the provision of photos of your veterans to us, which you undoubtedly have in your archives," Shoigu told Tonoyan.
"I hope this will get broad support from our colleagues in union republics," the defense minister said.
