18 January 2021, 16:56Parish in eastern U.S. returns to Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, which it left after its reunion with Moscow Patriarchate
Moscow, January 18, Interfax - The community of the Holy Assumption Church in Stafford, VA, U.S., returned to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) 13.5 years after leaving it to protest its reunion with the Moscow Patriarchate.
According to the website of the Eastern American Diocese, Priest John Trepatschko, rector of the community, wrote a letter to Archpriest Victor Potapov, dean of the Capital Region of the Eastern American Diocese, several weeks ago regarding the return of his parish to the bosom of the ROCOR. It was followed by correspondence between them, a meeting in person and finally a formal address to Metropolitan Hilarion, the head of the ROCOR.
The Holy Assumption Church community separated from the ROCOR in 2007 after Patriarch Alexy II and Metropolitan Laurus, who was then head of the ROCOR, signed the Act of Canonical Communion, which ended the lengthy division between the flock of the Russian Church caused by the revolution and the civil war. |
