Russian synagogues don't plan to close during upcoming non-working days

Moscow, October 22, Interfax - The Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FJCR) does not plan to introduce additional restrictions on entry to synagogues in the period of the non-working days introduced by the Russian president to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

"Anti-epidemic measures were introduced a long time ago and are successfully working in synagogues, community centers, schools, kindergartens, and all facilities that belong to the Jewish community. People entering synagogues are required to wear masks and observe social distancing. The overwhelming majority of community members have been vaccinated or have had the disease. Therefore, there are no plans to introduce additional restrictions as of today," FJCR spokesperson Darya Mikhelson told Interfax on Friday.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree introducing non-working days from October 30 to November 7. The heads of Russia's regions have been given the power to introduce additional non-working days before October 30 or after November 7 based on the sanitary-epidemiological situation in their regions.
