Metropolitan Hilarion calls for mandating Covid-19 vaccination for clerics

Moscow, October 25, Interfax - Metropolitan Hilarion, head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations, said he believes all clerics should get vaccinated against coronavirus.

"I think personally that vaccination should be mandatory for clerics, as clerics regularly contact large amounts of people. Of course except for cases when there are some medical contraindications," Metropolitan Hilarion said on the Rossiya-24 television channel.

At the same time, he admitted that it is not typical for the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as the state in general, to oblige clerics to get vaccinated.
