25 April 2022, 17:48Patriarch Kirill urges Russians to stand up to protect national independence
Moscow, April 25, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has called on Russians to rally around the government and not let foreign centers of power ruin Russia's independence.
"Today our people especially need internal unity. Everything is complicated around our Fatherland [...]. Therefore, our people today should unite around this historical center of all Russia - around the city of Moscow, realizing that only in unity is our strength, and as long as we are united and strong, as long as we keep faith in our hearts, as long as we are inspired by the great example of our predecessors, until then Russia will be invincible," the patriarch said in his sermon after the Divine Liturgy in Kremlin's Assumption Cathedral on Monday.
The victory is always not only a physical victory, not only a victory of weapons, he said. "It is always a victory of the spirit," Patriarch Kirill said. "And today a lot of people would like that spirit to disappear. And in order for it to be so, it is necessary to sow discord, create new idols, draw attention to new pseudo-values, and to transfer human consciousness from the vertical dimension of life, which connects man with the God, to the horizontal, on which all the needs of the human body are placed," he said.
The patriarch noted that the current divine service had taken place in the memorial church, which was created in the fifteenth century as a sign of the unification of the Russian lands, and wished that the heroic examples of the past would inspire Russians to defend the homeland, "our true independence from the powerful centers of power that exist in the world today."
"May God keep us in true freedom, and all of this is directly linked to the preservation of the Orthodox faith in the hearts and minds of our people," the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said. |
