27 April 2022, 11:18The ISS crew showed Patriarch Kirill a cake floating in zero gravity
Moscow, April 27, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on Sunday afternoon congratulated the Russian crew of the International Space Station via video link.
At the request of cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev, Denis Matveev and Sergey Korsakov, he blessed them for their labors and wished them heroic health.
For their part, the cosmonauts showed the primate a paschal cake, which they prepared from what they managed to find on the ISS. During the conversation, the cake was floating in the air all the time due to the state of weightlessness. In addition to the main Easter treat, there were many icons hanging in the cosmonauts' compartment, as well as a large Orthodox cross.
The patriarch suggested that only Russian cosmonauts fly surrounded by sacred images.
"I think that our Western colleagues will not understand any of this, as it is difficult for them to understand Russia at all. And what is most amazing, what is most important – we combine today high science, advanced technology with our deep faith, with the preservation of traditions, and this helps us to remain strong, helps to preserve our identity, to remain truly heirs of our great history," he said. |
