04 May 2022, 14:10No agreement on Putin's meeting with Pontiff – Peskov
Moscow, May 4, Interfax - There is no agreement on Russian President Vladimir Putin's meeting with Pope Francis, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Journalists reminded Peskov at a press briefing on Wednesday about the Pontiff's proposal of a meeting with Putin and asked whether the Holy See had contacted the Russian presidential administration and proposed a meeting of the sort.
"Such initiatives are made through diplomatic services. There is no agreement on such meetings, and no such agreements have been reached," Peskov said.
Journalists asked whether such a meeting was necessary and how large, in the opinion of the Kremlin, "the potential of the Pontiff is" from the angle of possible influence on the Ukraine situation.
"In this case, there have been no agreements to this end and no specific initiatives have been put forward," Peskov said.
He declined to assess the necessity of such a meeting. |
