23 May 2022, 14:59Patriarch Kirill urges to educate children by the example of today's defenders of Russia
Moscow, May 23, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia considers it important to set an example to schoolchildren of those who are participating in military operations to protect the country today.
"The teaching of the basics of Orthodox culture can in no way be divorced from our lives, so we must always fill (it) with examples – of course, from the lives of saints, but also from the lives of our wonderful contemporaries, from the lives of heroes who gave their lives on the battlefields. And even today there are so many heroes, so many who sacrifice their lives, their health, defending the Motherland," the patriarch said on Monday at the XXX International Educational Readings in Kremlin.
In his opinion, such examples will help children understand how important a person's spiritual strength is. "No heroic deed is done rationally, that's what you need to remember – it's always irrational. Rationally, you need to hide, run away, hide, but a person driven by the power of the spirit gets up and goes towards death," the primate said.
He believes that the theme of modern heroism is very important, including for arousing children's interest in spiritual life.
In addition, according to the patriarch, children should be brought up by the example of martyrs and confessors, which would help them understand what it meant to be an Orthodox Christian in the Soviet Union at one time, "what risks, what sorrows, what grief befell a person if he openly confessed faith, but none of the above became an obstacle for people." |
