Russia has immunity against any military adventurism - Patriarch Kirill
Moscow, May 30, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has reaffirmed that Russia is a peace-loving power and strengthens its Armed Forces only for defensive purposes.
"We are peace-loving power, first and foremost, because we took the brunt of the most horrible blows of World War II, which became the Great Patriotic War for us. We have immunity against all sorts of military adventurism, against any ability to be aggressive. And the only reason why it is necessary to strengthen the Armed Forces is to ensure that no one ever dares to cross the sacred frontiers of our country," Patriarch Kirill said on Monday at a parade of the "May the Bonds of Generations Never Break" Moscow cadet movement on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 350th birth anniversary of Peter the Great, the founder of the regular Russian army and fleet.
As a peace-loving state, which ties its future to peace, justice and the dynamic development of the economy and all other fields of society's life, "we at the same time pay our respects to our Armed Forces and express our respect to young people who wish to dedicate themselves to the noble and holy cause of defending their homeland," he said.
"The greatness of our power and respect toward us will largely be determined by what the face of our Armed Forces will be," he said.
Hopefully, today's cadets will never have to take part in real hostilities, Patriarch Kirill said.
"But, if the Motherlands calls, none of you must doubt even for a minute that it is your duty to go and defend your people. And if it is so, our people and our country will be truly independent, free and prosperous," he said.
To remember this day, the patriarch presented the Moscow cadet movement with an Archangel Michael icon.
