16 June 2022, 14:47Russian Orthodox Church describes sanctions against Patriarch Kirill as absurd, pointless
Moscow, June 16, Interfax - The British sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia are absurd, Russian Orthodox Church spokesman Vladimir Legoyda said on Telegram on Thursday.
"I'll start with the fact that attempts to intimidate the head of the Russian Orthodox Church with anything or force him to give up his views are pointless, absurd and futile. The patriarch's family survived through years of godless persecution and he grew up and was shaped under colossal pressure on the faith, which he always resisted with dignity," Legoyda said.
These days, the Church is "the last bridge, a channel of communication that is being ruined for some reason," Legoyda said. No one but the political forces that made an escalation of the conflict around Ukraine and the postponement of peace their important objective needs this, he said.
"There is no other way for me to explain such absurd and counterproductive measures that do nothing but ruin the already shattered communication between the European community and Russia," Legoyda said. |
