06 July 2022, 10:01Sochnut program director denies reports of cessation of operations of Russian branch of Jewish Agency for Israel
Moscow, July 6, Interfax - The Russian branch of the Jewish Agency for Israel is continuing to work in Russia, and there have been no demands that it immediately cease its activities, Rivka Kuznetsova, program director at the Sochnut autonomous non-profit organization, said.
"The office of the Jewish Agency for Israel and the organizations established by the Jewish Agency for Israel in the Russian Federation are continuing their activities as required by the legislation of the Russian Federation," Kuznetsova told Interfax.
"There has been no demand for the immediate cessation of activities," she said.
The Jerusalem Post said on Tuesday that the Russian government demanded that the Jewish Agency for Israel, which deals with repatriation to Israel and provides assistance to those repatriating, cease its activities in Russia.
According to the newspaper, Sochnut received a relevant demand early this week, and a response is currently under consideration in the organization in consultation with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister's office. |
