06 July 2022, 21:29Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt has left his post
Moscow, July 6, Interfax - Pinchas Goldschmidt left the post of chief rabbi of Moscow, which he held for almost 30 years.
"We inform you that the contract of Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt has been completed, and he no longer holds the position of chief rabbi of Moscow," the press service of the Moscow Jewish Religious Community reported on Wednesday.
In turn, Rabbi Goldschmidt addressed the Jewish community with words of gratitude. "Friends, my work in Russia as the chief rabbi of Moscow has been completed so far. It has been a great honor for me to serve in the Moscow Choral Synagogue and to work for the benefit of the Jewish community of Russia all these years. I wish you all the best, I stay in touch and will provide assistance and support to each of you," the rabbi said in his address.
Goldschmidt's spokeswoman Olga Yesaulova told Interfax that the decision was not unilateral, it was taken jointly by the Jewish community and the rabbi.
Answering the question of what Goldschmidt will devote his time and energy to now, she recalled that he continues to be the head of the Council of Rabbis of Europe and is "a very popular person."
Yesaulova also said that most of the time the rabbi now lives in Israel, where he has parents, but also travels a lot.
Earlier it was reported about Goldschmidt's departure from Russia. He explained this by the hospitalization of his father living in Israel, who needs care. |
