Moscow, October 16, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia pointed to the signs of the decline of Western civilization and contrasted it with the Russian one.
"Nothing like what's happening in Russia is happening anywhere in the world today. The churches are being closed everywhere, they are being repurposed - in mosques at best, because Muslim communities in Europe are growing, and Muslims are pious people, they need to pray. Very often Christian churches are sold or rented to Muslims, and this is not the worst thing - it is worse when casinos, restaurants or some other entertainment centers are arranged there. But this is a fact, and it testifies to the deepest spiritual decline! And if this happens, it means that that civilization is not viable," the patriarch said on Sunday after the consecration of the new cathedral of Arkhangelsk.
According to the primate, only the civilization that is strong in spirit is viable.
The head of Russian Church noted that churches are built only when there is a need for them, and added that "as long as there is this need for our people, Russia is invincible, because it's impossible to correlate the strength of spirit of a people who believe in God and love their Homeland with the conditional strength of those who have relaxed in comfort and forgot what love for the Fatherland is, and who moves only by one aspiration to get more money and spend it better." |
