13 September 2006, 14:03FSB experts examine circumstances of Christ’s execution
Moscow, September 13, Interfax - Experts of the FSB Institute of Crime Detection have completed a series of researches into the Turin Shroud.
‘We have carried out a comprehensive inter-disciplinary - chemical, physical, mathematical and biological - research. For the beginning, we identified the possible age of the fabric by simulating the process of ageing. We have come to a conclusion that American researchers who ‘made it younger’ almost by half made a mistake. It is really less than two thousand years old’, said Dr. Anatoly Fesenko who directed the research.
The FSB experts established the nature of the wounds Christ endured in his lifetime, using marks on the shroud, and simulated a version of his bodily suffering, the Zhizn daily writes on Wednesday.
According to Fesenko, the shroud has preserved a physical evidence of violence perpetrated. There is a faintly visible yellowish-brown mark on the shroud’s two projections of a naked man’s front and back. ‘An analysis of all the marks shows that the man reflected on the shroud was flogged by Roman-type lashes which had with five tails with lead buttons fixed at their ends’, the expert stated.
The FSB experts also reproduced the process taking place in flax fabric fibers when coming in contact with human flesh. A volunteer from among the Institute’s researchers, a man with long hair, a beard and moustaches, worked himself to sweat on trainers and was then covered with a flax fabric almost similar to that of the shroud and was held under it for several hours. |
