Bishkek, January 18, Interfax - Kyrgyz law enforcement agencies have detained a leader of the banned extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir in the southern part of the country, a source in local law enforcement told Interfax on Thursday.
"Police officers detained a 42-year-old resident of the city of Osh in a special operation and seized a large amount of extremist literature from him," the source said.
"The detainee was a leader of the extremist organization banned in Kyrgyzstan," the source said. "The detainee's name has not been disclosed in the interests of the investigation," he said.
"A 16-caliber sawn-off shotgun and 24 cartridges were seized during a search of the detainee's apartment," the source said. "In addition, 35 discs, 14 audiocassettes, 43 brochures, 81 leaflets, and two posters of the extremist party Hizb ut-Tahrir were confiscated from the place," he said. |
