Psychotic people flow to Jerusalem as Biblical figures
Moscow, February 13, Interfax - Holy places of Jerusalem are popular with mentally deranged people.
This exotic disease is labeled by professionals as the Jerusalem syndrome, reports Wednesday Argumenty i Fakty weekly.
Thus, one individual affected by the Jerusalem syndrome, dressed in a beautiful white tunic and wearing a gilded crown on his head welcomes tourists and pilgrims on their way to the Wailing Wall proclaiming himself as King David. Being the psalmist, he holds some kind of a lyre and sings psalms to its accompaniment, and stops to preach from time to time.
The other psychotic person - "messiah" - guards the entry to Jerusalem and calls all sinners to repent as he claims the doomsday is near.
One more mentally deranged man was born in the USA. He called himself "Samson" and went to Jerusalem where he set about moving the giant stones of the Wailing Wall "to the right place". After fighting down policemen who tried to interfere, "Samson" was taken to the Kfar Shaul Psychiatric Hospital in Jerusalem. After therapy treatment he returned back to the USA by himself.
The Hospital diagnoses about a hundred patients obsessed with the syndrome, and about forty of them require hospitalization.
Most of them had been mentally affected in their home countries, and only few opened to the world as "Jesus", "The Virgin Mary", "John the Baptist", "Mohammed" or "Isaiah" in Jerusalem, the weekly reports.
