24 June 2008, 19:17Russian Imperial House will be guided by Church on royal remains
Moscow, June 24, Interfax - The Russian Royal Family will be guided by the Russian Orthodox Church's position on the identity of the alleged remains of two members of the Royal Family discovered near Yekaterinburg in the summer of 2007, Alexander Zakatov, the head of the Russian Imperial House's chancellery, told Interfax on Tuesday.
Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, the head of the Russian Royal Family, fully supports the Russian Orthodox Church's position, so if the Russian Orthodox Church - the Holy Patriarch and the Holy Synod - find sufficient reasons to accept this conclusion, the Imperial House will accept it," Zakatov said.
The Investigation Committee of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said on Tuesday, citing experts, that the remains found near Yekaterinburg last year were those of two members of the Royal Family executed by Bolsheviks in 1918 - Crown Prince Alexey and Grand Princess Maria.
"Regarding the statement of the Prosecutor General's Office, it can hardly be a sufficient reason for any decisions, because it denies that the Royal Family had been victim of political persecution," he said.
Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna and other members of the Royal Family currently reside in Spain. |
