16 July 2008, 13:00Nicholas II still leading in suspended famous Russians poll
Moscow, July 16, Interfax - Anyone wishing to vote for a particular outstanding Russian figure in the contest called "Russia's Name. Historical choice-2008" will now have to wait: the voting on the official website has been suspended.
"Dear visitors, the poll has been temporarily suspended for technical reasons," the website said on Wednesday, on the page of the contest conducted by the Rossiya TV channel, the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Russian History and the Public Opinion center.
According to the latest figures of the project organizers, just several hours before the online vote was suspended the leading figures remained Nicholas II (275,065 votes), who earlier ousted Joseph Stalin from the leading position he had held for two weeks (273,877 votes). In the third place is Vladimir Lenin (188,372 votes). The top five also includes Vladimir Vysotsky and Peter I.
According to some sources, the unrestricted vote in the Russia's Name project sparked online political battles between communists and monarchists. The former used the flashmob to put one of the most controversial Soviet leaders in the first place, while the latter chose the last Russian emperor.
Earlier, project's chief executive producer Alexey Golikov commented to Interfax on the results: "This is not a referendum, this is an entertainment project with no political component." |
