Yaroslavl Archbishop urges not to give way to despair in times of crisis

Yaroslavl, December 2, Interfax – Archbishop Kirill of Yaroslavl and Rostov believes the panic seizing Russians in connection with the world economic crisis is too exaggerated and urges people not to lose heart.

“Our compatriots often use the word “crisis” in their speech. I think Russians were not so shocked even when Germans reached the borders of Moscow in 1941,” the Archbishop said in his address conveyed to Interfax on Tuesday.

He noted that “global financial intrigues” would influence Russians, their salary would reduce with unemployment rate growing, but the Archbishop stressed, “it’s very sad, but not mortal” and the life goes on.

The Church official pointed out to positive sides of crisis. According to him, they have yet to be evaluated.

“We aren’t facing a question of survival and security in the period of crisis. It is a good occasion to take up our domesticity, start farming instead of buying everything in supermarkets. It gives cause to develop domestic production and industry,” the Archbishop believes.

He reminded that Russia “has never lived without crisis – we lived through so many of them that they’re too numerous to count on national scale,” and went on to state “it’s extremely dangerous to give way to despair as you can kill both body and soul.”
