21 November 2005, 16:41International Islamic forum to be held in Chechnya
Moscow, November 21, Interfax - An international Islamic forum entitled "Islam for Peace" will be held in Gudermes, Chechnya, on December 10. The forum will commemorate Chechnya's late president Akhmad Kadyrov and mark International Human Rights Day.
The Al-Khak Justice Islamic human rights organization, the Kadyrov Public Charity Foundation and the Moslem Department of Chechnya are organizing the forum.
"Kadyrov is a religious leader who died at the hands of terrorists like a Shaheed," Al-Khak Justice leader Kamilzhan Kalandarov told a Monday press conference in Moscow.
"Every religion has followers that deserve publicity," Kalandarov said. He hopes that people of other religions will also attend the forum.
About 300 clerics, including those from the Middle East and Europe, will attend the meeting, to speak about Kadyrov's activities, the interaction between Islamic human rights organizations and Moslem clerics, and the development of Moslem education.
An Akhmad Kadyrov Award will be presented to a North Caucasian Moslem leader and an Akhmad Kadyrov Gold Medal will be presented to a public figure.
Asked whether the forum would discuss the election of a common mufti, Kalandarov said, "we cannot interfere in religious affairs. This is a very serious question." |
