Dushanbe, July 23, Interfax - Tajik police have detained three suspected activists of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), who had allegedly been planning terror attacks, a high-placed police source told Interfax on Thursday.
Fire arms, explosives and communication equipment were discovered in the suspects' rented house in the center of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in eastern Tajikistan.
"According to our sources, the IMU activists, detained in Kalai-Khumb [300 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe at the border with Afghanistan] fought on the Taliban side against the coalition forces in Afghanistan and were involved in anti-government protests in Waziristan in Pakistan," the source said.
The suspects were in Tajikistan on personal instruction from IMU leader Takhir Yuldashev who resides in Afghanistan, according to the source.
"The fire arms and explosives, discovered in the house which they rented in Khorog [in central Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region], indicates that they had been planning terror attacks in Tajikistan," he said. |
