St. Petersburg, July 29, Interfax - The Association of the Romanov Family considers it untimely during the global economic crisis to spend money on reburying the remains of the children of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia - Crown Prince Alexey and Grand Princess Maria found recently outside Yekaterinburg in the so-called second burial site, Ivan Artsishevsky, a spokesman for the association, told journalists in St. Petersburg.
"It is not exactly the right time to appropriate money for this during the crisis. Although nobody has taken this issue off the agenda," Artsishevsky said.
"We will bury them. Everything is not easy, but we will wait," he added.
It was reported earlier that pieces of bones and teeth were discovered during archeological excavations near Yekaterinburg on July 29, 2007. The remains were assumed to have belonged to Prince Alexey and Princess Maria, and a number of expert analyses made both in Russia and abroad confirmed this.
In addition, the genetic codes of the remains from the so-called first burial site outside Yekaterinburg and of blood stains on the shirt belonging to the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, which is being stored at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, were also found to be a match recently, thus confirming once again that the remains of the Romanov family were discovered in the first burial site.
U.S. experts involved in the analyses also said they were confident that the bones of Nicholas II were found in the first burial site outside Yekaterinburg.
