28 August 2009, 16:24Medvedev calls for work with youth in N. Caucasus
Sochi, August 28, Interfax - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called for a program to work with young people in the Northern Caucasus, saying he regrets that militant groups are still succeeding in involving young people in criminal activities.
"Unfortunately, militant groups are still succeeding in involving young people in their activities, that is a fact," Medvedev said at a meeting on Friday, addressing the support of Muslim religious organizations in the Northern Caucasus.
"For this reason, I think it would be right to work out a comprehensive program to work with young people in the Northern Caucasus," Medvedev said.
Medvedev also said the spiritual and moral development of the youth is an important function of the federal administration. "The Muslim clergy has the same burden," he said.
"The state is doing everything to strengthen religious Muslim organizations and Muslim educational establishments," the President said.
