Makhachkala, September 21, Interfax - Three militants, among them the leader of a terrorist group, were killed in a police operation in the Kizlyar district of Dagestan on Saturday, a source at the Dagestani department of the Federal Security Service told Interfax.
Two of the dead militants had been identified, he said.
"One of them is Abdullah Saadulayev (Daud). He was the chief Sharia judge of militants and the right hand of Magomed Umalatov, the so-called Dagestani emir. In fact, Saadulayev was the second in command in the Dagestani terrorist units. The second militant was identified as Sultan Magomedov, 29. The third militant is unknown so far," he said.
The Federal Security Service learned about the three militants driving through Dagestan and tried to stop the car for an inspection near the Khutseyevka village at 3:30 a.m. The passengers opened fire.
"The three militants were killed in the gunfire exchange. They were carrying two submachine guns, a Makarov pistol, four grenades, ammunition and radios," the source said.
