19 October 2009, 10:10Ilia II believes it was possible to avoid August crisis 2208 in Caucasus
Tbilisi, October 19, Interfax - Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia believes that it was possible to avoid war in Caucasus in August 2008.
"Tragic events in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali shouldn't have happened. We could have avoided them," the Patriarch said at his meeting with Georgian teachers.
"When a vessel is on the sea, its leader, a captain should know where reefs are in order to avoid them. We've been meeting with such reefs, walls and bang our heads against them while we could have avoided them and wouldn't have crashed our heads," the Catholicos said.
According to Ilia II, "there's no such wall or dead-end that is impossible to avoid, there's always a way out."
"We shouldn't follow the past events, we should look forward, we should forecast, what can happen and what we should do to prevent certain events," the Patriarch stressed. |
