20 October 2009, 11:50Russian Muslim leaders: alleged marks on baby's body "a warning"
Moscow, October 20, Interfax - The Russian Council of Muftis said in a statement that quotations from the Koran that twice a week allegedly appear on the body of a nine-month-old boy in the Russian republic of Dagestan are "a warning to all Muslims of Russia and Dagestan."
According to reports early this month, the parents of little Ali who lives in the city of Kizlyar, and local imams claimed that words looking like birthmarks had been appearing on one of the baby's legs and feet twice a week, normally on Mondays and Fridays, and then vanishing. One of the supposed quotations was, "Allah is the Creator of all that is."
When the next quotation is to come up, Ali remains sleepless throughout the night and is running a fever even powerful drugs cannot get down.
When he was just born he was diagnosed with "second-stage ischemic disease of the heart" and cerebral palsy but, after he allegedly began to show Koran quotations, he was said to have been pronounced completely healthy.
"We interpret that sign as a warning to all Muslims of Russia and Dagestan, namely that they should turn to the wisdom of the religion of Allah, repent of their sins, and abandon their discord, conflicts, and the fratricidal confrontation that today shakes the blessed land of Dagestan and the entire Caucasus," the Council of Muftis said.
By returning to the commandments of Allah, "abandoning their discord, establishing peace between themselves and neighboring peoples, purifying themselves of sins, and beginning to strengthen the principles of good-neighborliness and mutual forgiveness, the Muslims will acquire the mercy of Allah and build a truly peaceful and prosperous society," the statement said.
