28 October 2009, 14:4430 thousand Crimean Muslims are under the extremist influence
Kiev, October 28, Interfax - Up to 30 thousand Crimean Muslims, including 90 percent of Tatars from Alushta, are under the influence of the extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir.
This information is provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Crimea, as quoted by the Ukrainian issue of Komsomolskaya Pravda daily.
According to the newspaper, different figures of the followers of this movement were reported only a few years ago, that is, 800 - 900 people across the Crimea.
"Hizb ideas are increasingly penetrating into different groups of population, from teenagers to adults to madrasah graduates and district imams," Ayder Bulatov, vice chairman of the Republican Committee for Religious Affairs of the Crimea, said.
He explains this situation by "increasing wish of the Muslim citizens of the Crimea to find a way out of the plight they found themselves in during the last decade, and their seeking to save their young people from evils that permeate our society - immorality, lies, disrespect of seniors, alcoholism, drug addiction, and prostitution."
