02 November 2009, 12:56Muslim clergy shocked by imam's murder in Dagestan
Moscow, November 2, Interfax - The coordinating center of Muslims of the North Caucasus has called for intensifying crime resistance in Dagestan following the murder of an imam there.
"It is blasphemous when a preacher of peace and goodness is murdered. Islam forbids the murder of old men, children, women and clergymen even in times of war," representative of the coordinating center in Moscow and executive director of the International Islamic Mission Shafig Pshikhachev told Interfax on Monday.
He was commenting on the murder of Tinamagomed Ramazanov, the 34-year-old imam of a rural mosque in Dagestan, who was shot dead on Sunday returning from his mosque in the village of Bavtugai after an evening prayer service.
"We hoped that the leadership of Dagestan would bring some sort of order. Unfortunately, this is not happening," he said.
"In the ten years that Muslim clergymen have been regularly murdered, there has not been a single case when such a murder was solved," he said. "We don't see any positive dynamics on this mater," the mufti said.
