18 November 2009, 10:11Russian Church against the atheistic amendment to the Russian national anthem
Moscow, November 18, Interfax - Russian Orthodox Church considers that the idea to exclude the word "God" from Russian national anthem declared by Communist MP Boris Kashin is short-sighted.
"Thereby we exclude that God preserves our country and has His own craft over the country," the head of service of communications of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Priest Georgy Zavershinsky told Interfax-Religion.
According to him "it's wrong and short-sighted" to exclude from the national anthem the thought about God, reverential trust and a supplication. "Excluding a word "God", we" overshadow a great cultural and spiritual potential which has always been in Russia, and when we tried to be fenced off from it, the result for the country wasn't good".
The priest has also underlined, that "it's impossible to look to the future and wait for blessing, having inner resources to fall back on".
"Meaning by a word of "God" the most good, high, moral and spiritual qualities in the person, we doesn't touch the feelings of those people, who doesn't believe in God, but we remind to everybody, and to these people also, that the kind and moral qualities are inherent to our people". |
