Two suspects in attack on Dagestan mullah detained

Makhachkala, November 20, Interfax - Two men suspected of seriously wounding a Staroye Miatli village mullah in the head and the chest have been detained in Dagestan's Kizilyurt District early on Friday morning, a spokesman for the republic's Interior Ministry told Interfax.

The detained persons include a resident of the village of Borozdinovskaya in Chechnya's Shelkovskoy District and a man from the village of Agvali in Dagestan's Tsumadin District, the spokesman said.

Mullah Ibragim Abakarov was hospitalized after the attack.

It was reported earlier that the attack on Ibragim Abakarov occurred at around 8:30 p.m. when he was in the courtyard outside his house, the ministry's spokesperson said.

"An unknown perpetrator fired several shots at him from rural gardens and then escaped. Abakarov has been severely injured and hospitalized. The search for the assailant is underway," he said.
