Orthodox and Catholics will prepare a common position on dialogue with EU

Brussels, November 27, Interfax - Orthodox and Catholics intend to develop the joint approach to the forming dialogue with the European Union.

The first working meeting was on last Tuesday. Heads of Orthodox Church's representations at the EU and the General Secretary for the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community Father Piotr Mazurkiewicz took park in it.

"The parties noted the importance of the historical moment of coming the Lisbon contract into force, containing 17 article about the regular dialogue of EU institutes with Churches and religious communities. They have made a decision to start the preparation of a joint position for granting to the EU management," one of meeting participants, acting representative of the Moscow Patriarchate at the European Union Archpriest Antony Ilyin told Interfax-Religion.

"During the discussion participants of a meeting have underlined the importance of uniform approach development of Christian Churches in the EU for the forming of institutional dialogue with the EU. They have especially noted the importance of the joint mission of Orthodox and Catholic Churches because of having the same positions in the majority of pressing questions," he said.

As a result of the meeting the participants have made a decision to hold such consultations regularly since December this year.
