Bomb found outside Ingush mosque defused

Nazran, January 26, Interfax - Sappers from Ingushetia's Interior Ministry have defused an explosive device spotted near a mosque in Nazran on Tuesday, an Interior Ministry spokesman told Interfax.

A high level of coordination between the republic's security services was crucial to preventing this major terrorist attack, which could have entailed a large death toll among policemen and civilians, the spokesman said.

"The explosive device, which consisted of a bucket packed with explosives, was defused by sappers at the site. The explosives contained the equivalent of nearly eight kilograms of TNT. The bucket was also filled with nuts and bolts," he said.

Sappers also dismantled an earlier found grenade launcher facing the direction of the aforementioned explosive device, the spokesman said.
