19 May 2010, 10:26Stalin projected Moscow University's Museum of Earth Sciences as church - historian
Moscow, May 19, Interfax - Stalin instructed to design the Museum of Earth Sciences that occupies eight highest floors of Moscow State University as church.
"On Stalin's idea, this hall was built as a kind of chapel, a kind of church, where only elite is allowed," historian Olga Zinovyeva told TV Center.
The scientist believes that its design is similar to ancient Greek churches. "We see wonderful columns, closing arcs, marvelous windows, which make light penetrate from above. It creates a feeling of highness, solidarity with something high, heavenly, with God," she believes.
This sacral construction is crowned with a five-pointed star - a symbol that also has various interpretations. However, according to the historian, it does not have anything to do with the ideology and is perceived only as a pilot star. |
